Oslo Airport Transfer – Custom Booking System

Oslo Airport Transfer is a fully custom-developed chauffeur and airport transfer booking platform built on WordPress. The project goes far beyond a standard website, combining a responsive customer-facing interface with a custom booking engine, real-time route calculations, dynamic fare estimation, online payments, customer accounts, ride management and a dedicated administrative workflow.

The core of the project is a custom-built booking system developed specifically around the client’s transportation business model. Customers can choose between Distance-Based and By-the-Hour bookings, with different vehicle categories including standard cars, Business Class, First Class, Business Vans and larger Minibus/Sprinter options. Each booking type follows its own pricing and calculation logic rather than relying on a generic third-party booking plugin.

For distance-based journeys, the system integrates with Google Maps, Places, Geocoding, Directions and Distance Matrix APIs. Pickup and destination locations can be searched using address autocomplete, while the system calculates the route, distance and estimated fare dynamically. Custom minimum-fare and vehicle-specific pricing rules are applied automatically, allowing the final price to reflect the selected vehicle and journey rather than using a fixed booking price.

The booking interface also includes pickup date and time selection with validation to prevent customers from selecting past dates or times. Customers can add journey notes and additional information before confirming their ride. The entire booking experience was designed to work responsively across desktop, tablet and mobile devices, including device-specific adjustments for smaller screens and Safari/iPhone layouts.

A flexible payment workflow was developed with two booking options: Pay After Ride and Online Payment. Customers who select Pay After Ride can confirm their reservation directly, while online-payment bookings are connected to Square Checkout for secure payment processing. The architecture also keeps provision for additional functionality such as voucher or promotional-code handling.

The platform includes a complete custom customer account system rather than depending on the standard WordPress login experience. Users can register, log in, recover forgotten passwords, change their password and access a personalised My Rides area. From there, customers can view their bookings and follow ride progress through statuses such as Accepted, On Route, Completed and Cancelled.

Ride management was another significant part of the development. Existing bookings can be opened and edited through a custom interface, with booking information pre-populated for the customer. When journey details or vehicle selections are changed, the system can recalculate the applicable fare based on the updated information.

Automated email communication is integrated into the booking workflow so that relevant notifications can be sent when a reservation is created or its ride status changes. This keeps customers informed without requiring the operator to manually communicate every update.

A separate administrative ride-management area was also developed for the business. Instead of relying entirely on the standard WordPress dashboard, the project includes a dedicated Oslo Rides interface with its own login experience and custom styling, allowing the operational side of the business to manage customer rides more efficiently.

Considerable work also went into the front-end experience and visual integration. The booking form, Google Map, route presentation, vehicle selection, payment controls, account pages and ride-management screens were designed around the Oslo Airport Transfer brand. The interface uses a consistent dark luxury theme with cyan accents and custom map styling while maintaining usability across different screen sizes.

Overall, the project involved custom WordPress/PHP development, booking-engine architecture, complex conditional logic, Google Maps API integration, distance and fare calculations, vehicle-based pricing, Square payment integration, customer authentication, ride management, automated emails, custom administration tools and responsive UI development. The result is a purpose-built transportation booking platform tailored specifically to the operational requirements of Oslo Airport Transfer rather than an off-the-shelf booking solution.
